Hibernian were rather solid during the pre-season and early League Cup campaigns, as they linked a six-game winning streak to July and only watched it end with a friendly match against Newcastle United (1-3) on Tuesday. They now host St Mirren hoping to keep their team up and we hope Paul Heckingbottom's troops are very motivated to do so.
Hibs had seen a very busy summer with seven arrivals and 11 departures, when Heckingbottom remodeled the outfit to find a team that suited his approach to attack. They have scored a number of goals along the way and found the net eight times
in the last four matches, with clean sheets on all three last League Cup occasions.
St Mirren clearly does not have the same depth in quality and they also rarely have a summer business to boast, where they only bring two fresh faces and don't really feel like much better clothes - because they have just secured a survival top- flight last season.
Friends struggled with far fewer opponents because they beat Edinburgh City (1-0) with the last penalty converted by Djorkaeff's new song and also on penalties against East Kilbride (where they lost bonus points after a goalless draw ) and Albion Rovers (where they won after a similar deadlock).
Thus, we feel that their goal-scoring misery will prove expensive on Easter Road and we will support Hibernian to take advantage of the Home to Nile victory, which came on 27/20 and seems to be very valuable at the moment.
We've seen St Mirren solid behind, and going for Under 2.5 Goals the FT now seems like a solid approach to the fixture on 11/10. We must be in for a comfortable victory but this still feels like value for those who keep Hibs faith going to keep clean paper that day.
