Match Preview & Team News
Ross County made it only one year in the second division of Scottish football because the Championship title had immediately returned them to the top flight. They will start a new campaign on Saturday afternoon when Hamilton Academical comes to visit the Global Energy Stadium.
The Staggies have enjoyed a brilliant pre-season because they will come to the season's opening match with five consecutive wins. They drove quickly towards the top of Group B League Cup with a 12-2 goal difference for four wins. The hosts confirmed a strong spell with a 2-0 win over English under-division Carlisle United seven days ago.
The Accies have a much more complicated season. They did win each of the last three matches, but they only secured the knockout phase of the League Cup thanks to a dramatic return at last weekend's away match against the Airdrieonians.
Brian Rice's men showed an extraordinary fighting spirit to return to the contest after conceding two goals early last Saturday. They finally won 2-3 and made it three wins after a slow start to the League Cup campaign. Hamilton scored eight
goals in the last three games and we might be able to enter for a high-score thriller here knowing about the form of attacking both Ross County too.
Both teams have scored in six of seven head to head meetings, while four out of five have seen at least three goals scored. Ross County won two and drew one of the last three home clashes with the Accies.
Ross County vs Hamilton Academical Head-to-head (h2h)
10 of the last 13 matches have goals at both ends of the field.
Four of the last five matches saw Ross concede two or more goals.
The last five meetings in this venue have met the BTTS option.
Eight of the last nine wins at the venue fell to the hosts.
Ross County vs Hamilton Academical Prediction
The district has been in shape for some time. They have been on reels throughout the past season, and have continued their pre-season trips too. They won the last five matches by running and scoring two or more goals in ten of their last eleven matches. At home, they are unbeaten in their last 17 matches, and have registered two or more goals in 12 of their last 15 matches, while keeping clean sheets in five of the last six matches.
In addition, eight of the last nine ties saw home wins, and eight of the last nine matches in this venue also went to Ross County. Because that, counting on Hamilton's last fight, consider the favorite host to post three points on the board.
But consider that Ross is from the lower division and they have conceded two or more goals in four of the last five meetings. Also, 10 of the last 13 and the last five meetings in this venue also have goals from both teams.
With this in mind, clean sheets for County are somewhat out of the question.
