Dijon vs Marseille : Line-ups, preview & prediction French Ligue 1 Friday, 9th December, 2016

Dijon vs Marseille
French Ligue 1
Date: Friday, 9th December 2016
Kick off at 19:45 UK Time
Venue: Stade Gaston Gerard.

Round 17 in Ligue 1 kicks off at Stade Gaston Gerard this Friday evening as 15th placed Dijon host 10th placed Marseille.

This should be a fascinating contest – both sides have found things extremely tough of late and will be desperate for three points here to breathe new life into their campaigns.

Last season’s Ligue 2 runners-up Dijon have been suffering the worst and are possibly feeling the heat of stepping back up to the top tier having failed to win any of their last six Ligue 1 fixtures.

After losing to Nancy and Bordeaux following the international break, Olivier Dall’Oglio’s men found a chink of a light a fortnight ago with a highly credible point against Monaco. However, they did not build on that last weekend at Caen where they only managed a 3-3 draw.

Dijon are now just two points above the relegation zone, however they will be optimistic of turning things around on Friday against a Marseille team that have been awful on the road this term.

With just three points from a possible 24 on their travels, Les Olympiens have the third worst away record in the league and their dismal results outside of Stade Velodrome are the main cause of their substandard season so far.

Fortunately for Rudi Garcia’s men they maintained their strong home form last weekend with a cosy 3-0 success over Nancy, this brought some relief to the club after comprehensive defeats to Montpellier and Monaco in recent weeks.

Victory here for the nine-times French champions would temporarily lift them up to 8th in the standings. However, at 6/4, the visitors simply cannot be fancied with confidence to achieve their first away triumph of the campaign.

Nonetheless, Dijon have been just as friendless for punters for the majority of the season and although they’ve only been beaten once at Stade Gaston Gerard in eight outings, the 7/4 on offer for the hosts also looks a little short.

So considering 50% of Dijon’s home games this term have ended all square and Marseille have also drawn a few away from home, we feel a stalemate is the best bet for Friday’s encounter at 23/10.

And with Dijon’s home matches containing 25 goals and Marseille‘s away fixtures containing 23, a  2-2 correct score wager should give people a run for their money at 12/1.

Dijon vs Marseille: Head to Head Stats

In recent memory there are only two fixtures between these two sides. The clubs share a win apiece though what is interesting is that the away team has been the victor on both occasions. There has been 8 goals in these two matches, with at least the over 2.5 goal market having a 100% success rate, likewise both teams to score also has a perfect record.

Dijon vs Marseille: Prediction

This is a game where we can’t place a winner. The problem is that Marseille have the better squad but travel with no confidence. Dijon battle hard and has a good record at home but they have not been spectacular. Both clubs do ship goals and we should expect to see that continue on Friday night.

Dijon vs Marseille: Betting Tips

Both teams to score at 5/6 (1.83)
Marseille to score the first goal at 10/11 (1.90).
