Sporting v Real Madrid Preview

Real Madrid need to earn the three points in the last game away in the Champions League group stage to secure a place in the Last 16 round. Los Blancos drew the other two games out of Santiago Bernabéu against Borussia Dortmund and Legia Warsaw. In La Liga, Los Blancos are playing better away than at home and on Saturday they thrashed city rivals (0-3) in the derby.

Zinedine Zidane is uncertain about the presence of Karim Benzema, still with muscular problems. The captain Sergio Ramos could start after seeing on the bench the victory against Atlético Madrid. Isco, the best player on Saturday, is expected to start again at José Alvalade in his debut in the Champions League. Morata, Toni Kroos, Casemiro and Pepe will miss the game.

Sporting Lisbon thrashed Praiense (5-1) in Taça de Portugal on Thursday and they need to beat Real Madrid to try to get through the next round. Sporting lost both games against Borussia Dortmund and they are five points behind Los Blancos.

Sporting vs Real Madrid: Prediction

Real Madrid are coming on the back of an excellent 3-0 win against their city rivals Atletico Madrid. This was a classy performance and result to go with despite missing some key players like Sergio Ramos, Pepe and Toni Kroos. While Sporting’s form is not that bad, it is unlikely that they can raise any kind of threat to the free-scoring Madrid side. A surprise can only happen if Real go to sleep like they did in their previous Champions League fixture against Legia Warsaw.
