Corinthians vs Atletico Paranaense
Brasileiro Serie A
Date: Saturday, 15th July 2017
Kick off at 23:00 UK/ 00:00 CET
Venue: Arena Corinthians.
Corinthians continued their excellent start to the season on Thursday as they secured a very impressive 2-0 win away at Palmeiras. That victory was particularly eye-catching when we consider that Palmeiras had been in strong form at home and had conceded just once on their own patch before that match. Corinthians are now a massive ten points clear at the top and so it’s clear that they mean business.
In contrast, Atletico-PR have been struggling of late and, in truth, have been struggling for some time now as they sit just three points above the drop-zone. On their own patch, it is almost impossible to go against the league leaders here as they’ve simply looked a cut above this season. However, as opposed to backing them on the simple W/D/W market, the bet that stands out is ‘Corinthians to Win Half-Time/Full-Time’ at 6/5.
Not only have Corinthians won each of their last five on home soil, they’ve been making light work of taking a lead into half-time in doing so. The top-of-the-table side have been leading at half-time in four of their last five victories at Arena Corinthians and, against struggling opposition, could easily repeat this feat once again.
On the road, despite winning a few games not that long ago, Atletico-PR have been finding life tough of late. They did pick up a point against 13th place Chapecoense last time but had lost two away matches on the spin prior to that, one of which saw them trail by three goals to nil at half-time. In addition, they come into this game, which requires them to travel over 800 kilometres there and back, having failed to win any of their last five. Of those five, they’ve lost four. A trip to face the runaway league leaders when you’re in such poor form is definitely not what the doctor ordered.
All things considered, this looks to be an excellent opportunity for Fábio Carille’s men to kick-on and they’re fancied to do just that with a convincing display.
Corinthians
Timao confirmed the domination in this term of Serie A by beating the defending champions Palmeiras 0-2 on the road in mid-week.
Jadson and Guilherme Arana bagged goals to lead Corinthians to a 12-point gap at the top of the standings.
Fabio Carille can be especially proud of his team’s defensive displays since the team allowed no more than a single goal in last eight matches in all competitions.
Atletico PR
The visitors also continued their streak, but unfortunately for their fans, it has been far less impressive than the one of Corinthians.
The disastrous run and a significant slide in form caused the change on the bench, but the new dup (Fabiano Soares and Kelly) failed to avoid a defeat on their debut having lost the mid-week’s encounter with Cruzeiro 0-2 on the home patch.
Corinthians vs Atletico PR: Head to head
This will be a fantastic opportunity for Timao to make it all square at 12 wins for each of the teams in
head to head stats.
The hosts have failed to find the back of the net in last two matches with Atletico PR. The last H2H encounter between the two teams saw a goalless draw in late November last year.
