Cameroon vs Colombia
International Friendly Match
Date: Tuesday, 13th June 2017
Kick off at 19:30 UK/ 20:30 CET
Venue: Coliseum Alfonso Perez.
Cameroon managed to clinch the African Cup of Nations in February, beating Egypt in the final after winning three and drawing three of their six total matches during that winter competition. This affords them a spot in the upcoming Confederations Cup which begins next week, and a match against Colombia on neutral ground will provide the perfect warm up for what is expected to be a difficult campaign.
They have games against Chile, Australia, and Germany to look forward to this month, and whilst the Germans have opted for a largely inexperienced squad they will have a very tough test against a full strength Chile side.
Cameroon are in good form though. Their last outing on Saturday saw them beat Morocco 1-0 to make it four wins from their last five games, but whilst the opposition they have faced in this period hasn’t been too bad it could be described as lower quality than Colombia.
Colombia come into this match on the back of a 2-2 draw away to Spain in last week’s friendly, with Cardona and Falcao putting the Colombians ahead after they went a goal behind before Alvaro Morata’s late equaliser.
This extends Colombia’s unbeaten run to three matches, and they haven’t lost a match that wasn’t against Brazil or Argentina since they were knocked out of last summer’s Copa America at the hands of eventual winners Chile.
They have brought a strong squad to Spain for this friendly too. James Rodriguez and Radamel Falcao are both present to terrorise the Cameroon defence, whilst Christian Zapata, Pablo Armero, and Carlos Sanchez are key figures too.
Cameroon are by no means a poor team, but I think Colombia have the edge. They have the greater quality of squad and are coming in off the back of a confidence boosting draw against Spain, so odds of 4/5 for a Colombia Win look good value. I’m going for that along with a 2-1 correct score predictions at 15/2.
Cameroon vs Colombia: Head to head
Cameroon had a 2-0 lead in the head to head tie thanks to wins back from 1990 (World Cup) and 2003 (Confederations Cup), but Colombians came out with a demolishing 3-0 victory in a friendly back from mid-October 2012.
Cameroon vs Colombia: Prediction
Broos will most likely rest his key players for Confederations Cup which will open up the way for Colombia to continue their ominous form and snatch an important win ahead of the final challenges in the WC Qualification campaign.
