Leeds United vs Brentford
England League Championship
Date: Saturday, 17th December, 2016.
Kick-Off at 15:00 UK
Venue: Elland Road, Leeds.
Leeds United
The off field problems seem to have surrounded Leeds United ever since their relegation from the Premier League, but Garry Monk has arguably got them the most settled on the field in those years. Massimo Cellino was banned from all football-related activities for eighteen months last week by the FA which might speed up his decision to sell a large portion of this club, but the fans will be hoping that any new owner sticks with Monk and the current direction the club are taking.
Monk had been under pressure earlier in the season as the manager of Leeds United, but he has helped bring some consistency to the results which has pushed them into the top six of the Championship. Keeping the consistent results going might even see Leeds United threaten the automatic promotion spots, but it might also depend on improving the 6-2-3 record they have at Elland Road.
Leeds United were recently knocked out of the English Football League Cup Quarter Final but they have won 3 of their last 4 League games after seeing off Reading at Elland Road on Tuesday. They have only lost 1 of their last 8 home League games and Leeds United have won 6 of those games including 3 of the last 4.
Brentford
The Championship can be a very tough Division to negotiate for teams because it can be difficult to find the consistency to really push on up the League table. The last couple of years has shown Brentford that they are perhaps not quite as good at the 'moneyball' approach to promotions as their owner may think, and they look a real mid-table club at the moment.
The Bees are down in 14th place in the Championship table and almost exactly the same number of points from the Play Off spots as they are to the bottom three. The form at Griffin Park hasn't been bad, but Brentford have struggled on their travels where they have a 3-2-6 record having scored 11 goals and conceded 18 in those games.
Brentford had lost 4 in a row in the League going into last weekend, but they managed to beat Burton Albion 2-1 at home and followed that up with a 0-1 win at Bristol City over the last seven days. The win at Ashton Gate stopped a run of consecutive away defeats for Brentford at Blackburn Rovers and Norwich City.
