Wednesday marks a great chance for Napoli to gain the upper hand in this very tight Champions League group. They currently sit in 2nd position in the group, behind and a point ahead of Besiktas. But with those two facing each other earlier on Wednesday this gives Napoli a potential opportunity to go clear at the top of the group.
They managed to break out of their three match winless streak on Saturday with a 2-1 win over Udinese as well, with the Jose Callejon marking his return from injury by assisting one of Lorenzo Insigne’s two goals. This followed on from draws to Lazio and Besiktas and a defeat to Juventus, making it three wins, two draws, and one loss in their last six games.
Prior to that they had lost three in a row as they struggled along without the departed Gonzalo Higuain and with the serious injury to Arkadiusz Milik leaving them rather short going forward. Fortunately for them Callejon is now back, and him and Dries Mertens have proven to be deadly going forward. They have seven and six goals to their names respectively, with Mertens having three in the Champions League. Considering this form in Europe plus the fact that Callejon is just returning form injury, I’m going for Mertens to score anytime for our correct goalscorer predictions.
Dinamo Kiev are in a bit of a purple patch at the moment though as they look to make amends for a very poor spell of results. They went on a run of 11 games in which they won just twice earlier in the campaign, but coming into this game they have won five and lost one of their six games.
They are still quite rightly underdogs though. They have managed just one point from their four Champions League games so far and are already out of the reckoning for passage through to the knockout rounds.
Dinamo Kiev have managed to score in eight of their nine away days this season, and they’re facing a Napoli side who have only kept two clean sheets in their eight home games this season. The visitors have a great chance of bagging a goal on Wednesday, but Napoli should have enough about them to take all three points.
