Genk vs Gent
UEFA Europa League – Round of 16, Second Leg
Date: Thursday, 16th March 2017
Kick off at 18:00 UK/ 19:00 CET
Venue: Luminus Arena.
Gent will host Genk for the first leg of their Europa League clash on Thursday hoping to secure a win and earn an advantage ahead of the second leg and a tough away day in Genk. They come into the match in a better shape, having beaten Tottenham in 16th finals, and we’ll back them to win at 10/11 .
Both sides come into the match on the back of Saturday wins, but De Buffalo’s have had more trouble against struggling Waasland-Beveren (2-3) going behind twice but securing the points in the end. Gent have been rock-solid at home, having earned four wins in their last five games there, and with confidence taken from their weekend win we expect them to have what it takes to build on it in Europa League.
Genk, on the other hand, have shown a great side they are at home against table leaders Club Brugge (2-1) as they now look to join the league’s top 6. Although we’ve seen a great display, it’s obvious they’ve had much more troubles securing points on the road and we don’t feel they can take anything away from this fixture.
However, they’ll be highly motivated to make the away day count ahead of the second leg and we’re surely in for another quality defensive display from them. Even though we feel they don’t have what it takes to cause an upset on the day, they should have viable chances to make up any loss in front of the home fans, as we expect a narrow contest here backing Under 2.5 goals FT at 7/10
Genk vs Gent: Head to head
Genk continued the dominance in the head to head encounters with Gent last Thursday when they completely outplayed the Belgian rivals.
The 2-5 victory was the second in a row for Hein Vanhaezebrouck and his men in the head to head meetings with Gent.
Mbwana Samatta packed a brace, while Malinovskiy, Colley and Uronen added a goal each for the winning side.
Genk vs Gent: Prediction
It is hard to give any predictions because the tie has already been closed in the first leg.
Anyhow, we do expect to see goals because both sides have been quite inspired in the final third lately.
We’ll thus search for the value and chase the best odds offered on goals bets.
