Rangers vs Kilmarnock
Football : Scotland : Premiership
Saturday 29th October - Kickoff 15:00
Rangers
Rangers fought back from a goal down to draw with St Johnstone (1-1) midweek. The point leaves them in 5th place and they trail leaders Celtic by 9 points having played a game more in what has been a tough start in their return to the Premiership this season.
The loss to Celtic in the cup last weekend did have an effect on Rangers midweek and the result leaves them 2 without a win. In the last 3 games and in 4/5 Rangers have failed to score more than 1 goal. Defensively, it's ok with 2 clean sheets in the last 4 with the last opponents to score against them only netting the 1 goal in each game.
At Ibrox Rangers remain unbeaten in the league with a 2-3-0 record. They have netted in 4/5 but only 2 goals or more in 2/5. 2/3 clean sheets is good and against a side lower than them in the table they will expect to keep things tight once again on Saturday.
Kilmarnock
Kilmarnock are in 7th with 13 points following their 2-0 win over Hearts midweek. Unbeaten in 3 (2-1-0) and ignoring losses to Celtic and Aberdeen they are unbeaten in 6 Premiership games.
Kilmarnock have scored in their last 3 and in 7/8. Only Aberdeen shut them out and they netted against Celtic despite losing 6-1. 2 clean sheets in the last 3 is good and they will certainly ask Rangers some questions on Saturday.
Away from home it's 1 loss in 4 (against Celtic) with a 1-2-1 record. In 6 away Premiership games this season Kilmarnock have netted in 5 but never more than 1 in the last 5. Defensively, with the 6 goals shipped at Celtic the exception Killy have conceded less than 2 in their last 3 away.
Reason For Rangers vs Kilmarnock Betting Tips
Rangers’ rather flat start to life back in the top flight continued in midweek when they played out a 1-1 draw with St Johnstone at the Ibrox. This followed on from a 1-0 defeat to Celtic in the League Cup semi final, and it’s quite clear now that their reintegration to the Premiership might be a little more difficult than some Rangers fans expected.
They aren’t the dominant force they once were, and that’s illustrated by the fact they have only won four of their ten league games so far this season. During this time they have only won two of their five home matches in the competition, although to be fair they do remain unbeaten .
Rangers’ lack of goalscorers is the main issue to deal with. They have only conceded three goals at home, but six goals at the other end just doesn’t cut it. None of their players have more than a single league goal to their name at the Ibrox, so they could really do with a return to form from Martyn Waghorn.
Kilmarnock started the season in pretty awful form and it looked like they were heading for another battle against relegation. However, they have managed to turn it around a bit in the last few weeks.
Midweek saw them beat Hearts 2-0 at home, extending their unbeaten streak to three games after a draw at Invernes CT and a win at St Johnstone. It seems their heavy defeats to Celtic and Aberdeen really motivated them to improve.
It was star striker Souleymane Coulibaly who scored the opener on Wednesday to continue his fantastic run of form. He has now scored five Premiership goals in his last eight appearances and has netted four away goals already this season. He will undoubtedly be the main threat that the hosts have to deal with.
Rangers are unsurprisingly big favourites for this clash, but I think that does a bit of a disservice to Kilmarnock. They have only lost two of their six away days in the Premiership this season and are looking in good form at the moment. Rangers are struggling to find victories as well, although it’s important to note that they remain unbeaten at home in the league. For this reason, backing a Draw at 4/1 looks a very good value prediction, and I’m going for a 1-1 correct score prediction at 17/2 as well.
