PREVIEW
Four of the last sixteen players in the women's draw at Wimbledon from the Czech Republic and this Fourth Round match will guarantee at least one player from that country to qualify for the Quarter Final.
Two Karolina from the Czech Republic met when Muchova and Pliskova clashed on Monday. The younger of the two players was Karolina Muchova who had reached the top in the last few days and she had achieved her best Grand Slam results and so she could feel there was not much for her to lose by taking her to veterans.
Karolina Pliskova has never reached the Fourth Grand Slam Round and people have doubted it before her breakthrough at the US Open in 2016 when they finished as Runner Up. Since then Pliskova has reached the Quarter Final in six of the next ten Grand Slam matches being played, even though she wants to do that at Wimbledon for the first time in 2019.
His experience will certainly provide the confidence to break other barriers on the Tour and Pliskova will also be full of confidence after winning the title at Eastbourne just a few days before Wimbledon began. Service has been a big reason for his success on grass with the first serve being a very dominant shot for Pliskova and it continues to be the case for most at Wimbledon despite slower conditions at the club.
The return of the service has also worked very well for Pliskova and she certainly has every chance to move forward and win the title here from the lower part of the weaker lottery. However, Karolina Muchova had to play with confidence thanks to a strong appearance during the past week and she would not easily fall here.
It was a surprise from Muchova when you thought of her previous appearance on the grass, but she had served well and that would give her a chance to try and divert pressure to Pliskova. The service has given Muchova the chance to attack his return successfully and we certainly have seen more of him than before on this surface, although having the same success against the Pliskova service will be far from easy.
The two players met at the Australian Open again in January and Pliskova could really hurt Muchova with the return of service. On that day Karolina Pliskova also won 71% service points played and created ten break points against Karolina Muchova.
In this tournament, Muchova has tripled compared to Pliskova's service which was broken five times, but I think the match should benefit older Czech players. This is a difficult mental point for Muchova who might look at people like Pliskova and Petra Kvitova while riding on the Tour, and that might also play a role in this match.
Many will depend on Pliskova's service, but if she has a good day on the side of the game, I would think she has enough strength in return to hurt Muchova's second serve and then cover the handicap in the match.
