Dundalk extended their unbeaten run of form last Friday as they beat St Patrick’s Athletic 2-0 away from home, to follow on from three wins and one draw since their last loss, which came away against Shamrock Rovers.
Their chances of remaining unbeaten on Friday aren’t very high though, as they face runaway League of Ireland Premier Division leaders Cork City, who happen to be in absolutely inspired form.
Dundalk beat their opponents to the Premier Division title last season by a fairly comfortable margin, but their prolonged Europa League campaign seems to have taken it’s toll and they haven’t fared so well this season. They have lost five of their 16 games, just one fewer defeat than they suffered in the entirety of last season.
This has put them a huge 15 points adrift of their opponents, who have dropped just two points all season. Those dropped points came away from home against Galway United earlier this month, but in the other 15 matches they have looked unstoppable.
Last week Cork City beat Shamrock rovers 4-1 at home, taking their goals tally to 45 in just eight games. Even away from home they can’t stop scoring goals, netting 21 times in nine games, which has resulted in six of these nine games having at least three goals in total.
Dundalk are no strangers to high scoring games either. Five of their eight home games this season have resulted in at least three goals being scored, and whilst both teams boast formidable defensive units, the attacking quality on display should result in another high scoring affair here.
In the end I think Cork City will take all three points as well. They have looked unstoppable this season, so backing a Cork City Win and Over 2.5 Goals at huge odds of 7/2 look fantastic value. I’m going for that along with a 3-1 correct score predictions at 22/1.
