Moldova vs Georgia Prediction, Betting Tips and Preview
The match without any competitive significance will take place at Stadionul Zimbru in Chişinău where the two last placed teams of Group D will collide as Moldova host Georgian national team. It was more than clear even before the draw that the two sides can’t compete for the spot in Russia, so the two sides will play only for FIFA coefficient. Moldova are rock-bottom of the Group D with only 1 point collected so far. Their only point came from the reverse in Georgia where the teams settled for a 1-1 draw. Moldova are yet to pick up a point in front of their crowd in the campaign as they were beaten by Serbia 0-3 and Ireland 1-3, respectively. Their goal difference stands at -11 as they conceded 13 while scoring only 2.
Georgia are in the similar position as the hosting side since both teams are lower tier compared to the remaining four national squads. They are next-to-last with two points earned from the two 1-1 draws with Moldova and Wales. Prior to the clash against Serbia, Georgia’s games had 2 or fewer goals scored. Both national selections have the similar play style so we could see an interesting match between the two even sides.
Georgia and Moldova often met in the last 20 years, mostly within the friendly international matches. Surprisingly, Moldavians have the upper hand in their head-to-head history as they won 5 while losing only 3 games. Three games ended as a draw, while Moldavia scored 15 goals versus Georgia’s 12.
Moldova
This group seems to be way too tough for the team led by the Russian expert Igor Dobrovolskiy.
Moldova lost four of five qualifiers by at least two goals difference to Wales, Serbia, Republic of Ireland and Austria.
The hosts will, however, come in the game with Georgia in an improved atmosphere after showing quite a decent display in a friendly with Israel in mid-week. Radu Ginsari pushed Moldovans in charge at Winner Stadium, but the team was unlucky to concede a 95th minute equalizer from Ben Sahar.
Georgia
Georgia have also been pretty impressive in their recent friendlies as they demolished Latvia and St Kitts and Nevis with the total goal differential of 8-0 prior to the qualifier with Moldova.
Firmer head coach of the Slovakian national team, Vladimir Weiss, took charge before the start o the qualifications, but he could not do much more than claiming two points in a very tough group D.
Moldova vs Georgia: Head to head
Georgia had an early lead in the clash played back in November last year after Valeri Kazaishvili’s opener, but Aleksandr Gatcan secured the first point of the campaign for Moldovans 12 minutes from time.
Moldavia are generally the more successful side as they lead the head to head tie by two wins, but they struggled a lot to find goals in the most recent history of H2H meetings with Georgia.
Moldova vs Georgia: Prediction
The visitors have been much more solid at the back throughout the qualifications and they seem to have more quality in their squad.
Also, we don’t expect to see a goal fest since Moldova also seem to have improved defensively as they conceded only a single goal to Israel on Tuesday.
