Rennes vs Toulouse : Line-ups, preview & prediction France Ligue 1

Reason For Rennes vs Toulouse Betting Tips

A temporary jump to 4th place in Ligue 1 is the prize on offer for both teams this Friday evening as 6th placed Rennes clash with 8th placed Toulouse at Roazhon Park.

Rennes would have the best chance of holding that position come the end of the weekend, should it be attained, considering they are just one point behind 4th placed side Lyon (who take on reigning champions PSG Sunday night) and Christian Gourcuff’s charges will be desperate to resume winning ways following a frustrating 1-1 draw at home to Angers on match day 13.

It looked for much of the game like Giovanni Sio’s strike midway through the first half would be sufficient to give Le Rouges et Noirs all three points and a welcome tonic after losing 4-0 to PSG the previous week. However, Nicolas Pepe hit back eight minutes from time for Angers to silence the majority of Roazhon Park.

That disappointment will be quickly forgotten with a win here and Sio will again lead the line for Rennes who will be hoping key man Paul Georges Ntep has recovered from an injury that kept him out of last weekend’s game.

Overall, Rennes have a fine home record so far this season with five wins and two draws from seven outings and that makes Gourcuff’s men look a shade overpriced here at 13/10, considering Toulouse’s recent mini slide and questionable away form in general.

TFC have won just one of their seven matches on the road (four draws, two defeats) and suffered a surprising 1-2 defeat at home to Metz on Saturday – a result which followed a same score line loss to Lyon and 1-1 draw with Nantes on match days 11 and 12 respectively.

After a relegation scrap last term, Pascal Dupraz’ side were not expected to challenge in the top half this season and it may be a case of their bubble now bursting after such a fine start that was fuelled by Martin Braithwaite’s goals – which also appear to have dried up.

Toulouse got the better of Rennes 1-3 in last season’s corresponding fixture which will naturally spur them on here. However, Rennes won the last meeting between the sides 1-2 at Stadium de Toulouse in February and we expect Les Rouges et Noirs to do the business once again.

13/10 looks a cracking price for the hosts and pending the return of the aforementioned Ntep who has recently been linked with moves to Liverpool and Arsenal, Rennes can also put a few goals past a TFC defence lacking in confidence.

Head To Head

Rennes won the last meeting between the sides 1-2 at Stadium de Toulouse in February.

Rennes vs Toulouse Stats

Rennes have five wins and two draws from seven home Ligue 1 games in 2016/17, whilst Toulouse have won just one of their seven away outings this term.

Rennes Team News

Defensive midfielder Clement Chantome remains absent for Rennes with a shoulder injury so Gelsen Fernandes and Andre should again start in the middle. Christian Gourcuff is hoping to welcome star man Paul Georges Ntep back to the fold after the winger missed last weekend’s game against Angers through injury.

Toulouse Team News

Central midfielder Jean Daniel Akpa Akpro is the only injury concern for Pascal Dupraz who is likely to shuffle his pack after last weekend’s disappointing home defeat to Metz. 18-year-old loanee Odsonne Edouard, who scored in that game, could be involved again.
