Latest News

Sevilla lost their first 3 competitive matches against Real Madrid and Barcelona, but since those matches, they were unbeaten until the league match with Athletic Bilbao, against whom they lost 2-1. Since that match, Sevilla have lost the next 4 matches and manager Jorge Sampaoli must be very satisfied with his forwards, because 5 players have scored at least 3 goals this season, what will be very important, if someone gets injured. Sevilla have the 4th highest team market value in La Liga – 205,00 Mill. €.

Prediction

This promises to be a fascinating game and one that will tell us a lot about the credentials of both teams this term. Atleti could send out a real signal to Real Madrid and Barca by coming here and winning in dominant fashion. By the same token, victory for Sevilla would send them above the side from the capital and would be the biggest evidence yet that they are on the right track under Jorge Sampaoli.

Sevilla have certainly made a great start to life under the former Chile boss, just 1 point off the top of La Liga and going along very well in the Champions League. However, this could just be the game where we see they are not quite up amongst the elite sides yet. The truth is they are a work in progress following a massive overhaul in the summer, whereas Atleti are more or less the finished product.

Sevilla are perhaps a little fortunate to be where they are in the league in truth and this is their first match against one of the ‘big three’. They haven’t won a match in any competition by more than 1 goal since the opening day when they beat Espanyol in a 6-4 thriller and have scored winning goals in the 85th minute or later in 3 of their league matches. They’ve tightened up defensively since that opening game but have still conceded 1.5 goals per game on average overall, compared to Atleti’s 0.38.

Atleti have only conceded 1 goal in 4 matches on the road so far this term in La Liga and it’s just 3 goals conceded in 11 competitive games this term overall, when you take into account three wins to nil in potentially tricky Champions League games. Atleti have won 8 of their last 9 matches, including all of the last 5 and, although Sevilla are a good side and an improving one at that, they aren’t quite on their level yet.

Diego Simeone’s men are capable of shutting the best teams in Europe out having scored 7 at the other end only last weekend, they are looking sharp in the final third so are likely to have a bit too much for Sevilla on the day. Therefore, backing Atletico Madrid to Win at Evens looks to offer value here and their excellent recent record against the Andalusians supports that.
