PSG vs Saint Etienne: Prediction
It takes something extra special to defeat PSG at the Parc des
Princes – they lost one of nineteen in 2015/16 – and their complete
bloodlust for goals on home soil (they averaged more than three per game
there last season) makes Unai Emery’s side one of the most devastating
in world football on their own turf.
St Etienne lost nine of nineteen on the road last term, and while
their game is one of natural risk aversion (they conceded at a rate of
less than one goal per game last season) it would take a brave side to
try and defend against this formidable PSG attacking line up – even sans
Ibrahimovic. The fact that the Saints were ripped to shreds in their
last away day at Bordeaux is concerning.
It was a surprise that Emery didn’t replace Zlatan with an
out-and-out replacement, although it has allowed Edison Cavani to play
in his preferred position through the middle. But the Uruguayan isn’t as
prolific as the Swede, and so assistance in the net-bulging department
from Di Maria, Jesé Rodriguez and Lucas Moura. You can almost copy and
paste PSG match previews when they are playing at home: they will
dominate possession, create chances and more often than not score goals.
It takes a brave punter to bet against them at the Parc des Princes.
PSG vs Saint Etienne Betting
Tips
W25 D4 L1 – that’s how PSG have fared in their last 30 home matches
in Ligue 1. Of those 25 victories, 22 have come by a goal margin of two
or more; if there’s a more dominant ‘home team’ on the planet we’d like
to hear about them What we need to work out is if Saint Etienne are able
to offer the kind of resistance needed to put a dent in that trend
here. The stats suggest not: their last five visits to the Parc des
Prince have ended in defeat – 0-1, 1-4, 1-4, 0-5 and 0-2 being the
scorelines – and they have also conceded five in their last two away
days at Bordeaux and Nice.
Clearly, there’s no value in taking the 3/10 offered on a PSG win,
although we do like the 4/5 on them with a -1 handicap given the
Parisians’ proclivity for putting the ball in the net. And given that
it’s an odds-against chance at 5/4, try a small wager on both teams to
score: Saint Etienne have netted in two of their last three visits to
the Parc des Princes, and with David Luiz gone PSG have a hole to fill
in defence.
PSG v St Etienne Head to Head
The recent head to head does not make easy reading for the away team
where they have lost to PSG in the last five games. PSG have scored 9
goals in their last two home fixtures against Etienne conceding just a
single goal. From the last ten fixtures there is a 50/50 chance of over
2.5 goals. From the last six fixtures PSG have only failed once to score
at least 2 goals in this match.
Stats
Layvin Kurzawa has scored in 80% of the matches he has played in this season.
