Reason For Betting Tips
Angers returned to Ligue 1 after over 20 years of being absent last season, and they didn’t disappoint their loyal fans. They put in an excellent showing until the final few weeks of the season, finishing in 9th position. If it hadn’t been for a disappointing four match winless streak at the end of the season they might have made it into the Europa League playoff spots.
They seemed to still be recovering from that end of season dip in form at the beginning of this term as they lost to Montpellier, Nice, and Metz in the opening three games, failing to score in any of them. It looked like it could be a classic case of second season sydnrome.
However, Angers turned it around as they beat Dijon, Bordeaux, and Caen in succession. They did fall to a 2-1 defeat to Monaco last weekend, but considering the form the hosts were in that’s not a bad result. They were ahead in that match too, only to relinquish the lead and then concede the loser through an own goal. This defeat sends them to 12th in the table.
Whilst Angers were setting the top flight on fire, Marseille were wilting badly. They finished down in 13th position in Ligue 1 last term, a massive reduction in performance considering they were the 3rd place side the season before. The loss of key players, with the major one being Michy Batshuayi, hasn’t helped this season either.
They have lost three, drawn two, and won two of their opening seven games in Ligue 1, leaving them 13th in the table and in dire need of a pick me up after a torrid year or so.
Both of Marseille’s victories have been on home turf, and away from home they have lost all three of their outings in Ligue 1. Angers have won two and lost one of their three at home. This difference in form makes odds of 13/8 for an Angers Win on Sunday look very good value, and I’m backing that alongside a 2-1 correct score prediction at 9/1.
Head To Head
Marseille have won one and lost two of their three historic meetings with Angers.
Stats
Angers have won 67% of their home games this season, whilst Marseille have lost 100% of their away days.
