Curacao vs Mexico
2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup
Date: Monday, 17th July 2017
Kick-off at 1:30 UK/ 2:30 CET
Venue: Alamodome (San Antonio).

Preview

Mexico entered the tournament as defending champions and potential winners, but their opening to the Gold Cup has been less than simple.

El Tri defeated El Salvador 3-1 in San Diego, but a goalless draw against Jamaica has left the group undecided.

Only a shocking defeat to Curacao could see Mexico give up one of the qualification places on goal difference, and that's not expected given the opposition and their quality.

Mexico boss Juan Carlos Osorio remains suspended after being punished at the FIFA Confederations Cup, leaving coaching responsibilities to his staff on the touchline at the competition.

Curacao are aware the Mexicans are short of their best talent, but whether they can fashion El Tri's weakness into a win is unknown—but it remains unlikely.

The Caribbean nation are yet to score at the Gold Cup and have conceded four times in their two games.

Curacao vs Mexico: Prediction

For things to sway in Mexico’s way, Curacao are another team who show little intend in going forward. Unlike Jamaica and El Salvador, the tiny island nations are pretty unstable in their defensive department.

However, Mexico must improve their overall performance. Despite having the luxury of talented players like Eric Torres and Elias Hernandez, the team has so far failed to gel in together are a single unit. But, this is their chance to build some confidence ahead of the knockout phase.
